Arc Planner: My Daughters Point of View

Hi! Hello! I’m AdaLee, and I’m writing a guest blog post for my mom about our Arc Planner!!

Recently my mom and I both started to get more organized and we got ourselves an Arc planner organizer and notebook.

The Arc planner is disc based, not three-hole-based, which means that instead of the normal three-hole rings, they have 11 discs as the binding. We both have a faux-leather cover arc filled with dividers and paper and what nots of our choice.

Mine happens to have normal three-hole-punched college-ruled paper, graph paper, and even some blank paper. Since these papers are not already compatible with the Arc because of their inferior three-hole-punches, the Arc planner has a punch system that makes pretty much any kind of stationery into something that can be put into the arc!

I love this thing. I honestly do.

I had a super lame three-hole binder that had d-shaped clips instead of the default O shaped or C shaped ones normally in three-hole binders. What the meant was that papers in the binder would be incredibly difficult to maneuver without putting unnecessary stress on the punched holes. This resulted in a lot of torn paper, including some that was (or would be) important to class.

With the arc, I can now not have to worry about any paper tearing too much, for the way the Arc punches the paper that fits in it, individual papers put under too much stress simply pop out.

No worries. No damage. Just pop them back in again and
***ta da!!!*** you’re all good!!

On top of that, having to repunch and reformat all of the paper that I put into this thing requires me to be more organized about my schoolwork. My failed organizational days are gone!

Thank you Arc!!

Polyvore Collage Play!

Ice resin play...

Today has currently been spent playing and making Polyvore collage pictures.  Do you know what that is? I call Polyvore an aggregate app or a place that stores tons of information, photos, and tools pulled from many sites all over the web and keeps them all in one place. Then you and I can go in there and pull out the pieces that we like and put them into these fun Polyvore collages. Like the one above. You can even add text and other elements for a great graphic effect.

When I was finished with this collage it allowed me to copy and paste the html code so it would show up here. Now if you click on the picture you will be taken to Polyvore where it will show you the link to purchase. Pretty nifty! You can then purchase directly by clicking those links…if anything appeals to you. And the best part is they are linked to my supply shop on Etsy. I think that’s very cool! It makes me think of a million ways to use Polyvore collage boards for other aspects of my business.

Polyvore could be a great tool for anyone who blogs or reps their own creations. Membership to play is free and you can also poke around and follow other folks you might know who are making Polyvore collages too! (like me!)

So go on over and give it a try! Then come back and put your links in the comments so I can see what you chose for your Polyvore collage!

Until next time,

Susan

Artsy Fartsy Almost Fail

On the ever present train ride that is the artistic journey one tries to do things that are different…intriquing…maybe with a twist…?

Whimsy Sculpture

Forgetting that the universe includes something called the K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) principle i seem to forge ahead most days achieving close intimacy with the complicated. Seems i needed to come up with a class proposal. A new idea, a fun idea. To say i labored over this would be a gross understatement. I pulled out all the supplies, drew a bunch of templates, created a couple dozen pieces of God knows what, resin’d, shrunk, journaled, sculpted, painted, trimmed, and cut. For about three weeks. Everyday. The pictures are the result of my efforts.

Sculpture Back

Lets see if i can explain what these would be in a class situation. First, what i hope would be, a group would learn how to do some doodling to come up with a template which would then be cut out of shrink plastic. One side we color the other we journal on…random words. While these are in the oven we pull out the pictures or, my original idea, was to have the group take selfies (the black and white photos are me, i was about six), which we would cut to fit the shrink frames. Then we glue, then we resin…then we play with polymer clay for bases, bake again, paint them in funky patterns, insert bunny eared and crowned semi sculptures of shrink with selfies…and admire. Maybe not quite that fast but….

More

So…once finished i submitted the class proposal and thought, “ah, good work done!” About two days later i got a “thanks but no thanks” note. (Not really that abrupt but they let me know it wasn’t an idea their clients would enjoy) At first i was upset…all that work and an end product i thought was quite fun. Ahhhh….back to the drawing board.

And another 24 hours, i re-arranged the class practicing the K.I.S.S. principle and the second one they liked. All was not lost.

The moral of the story…stop overthinking, obsessing, hyper-focusing about your artwork. Let it flow…go with it…allow it to run freely from you. Stop doubting your ability and over doing your work. Everything you do is worthy and wonderful.

And always apply the K.I.S.S. Principle…

(Anybody want to take a crazy class? I have some ideas…)

Creative Overload with a Side of Geek

Say hello to Dr. Evil…and my slightly bemused son.

Dr. Evil

The last Sunday of July we had the privilege of participating in one of the largest geek, nerd, science fiction, super hero conventions in the world. San Diego Comic Con. Wow…what an enthusiastic crowd!

Predator

Of course there were super celebrities and super heroes but the unsung “hero” of this show are all the super, super talented artists through out the show floor. The drawings and paintings were extraordinary. Comic characters drawn right in front of our eyes…amazing! Caricatures, pencil drawings, sharpie marker sketches…it was all there.

Markiplier

Then there were the “you tubers” and my daughters latest obsession…Markiplier.  She watches him all the time. These young guys are an entirely new form of “celebrity.”

Artist drawn Batman Cape

Ben Affleck’s new Batman cowl debuted alongside these two artwork cowls. Handpainted and drawn…pretty amazing!

Artist Cape

For next year i intend to do some homework and research some of these talented artists.   Really soak up some inspiration.

Did you attend this year?
