With all the things going on in the world I try to keep my home life on an even keel. We keep routines, stick together as a family, and check on each other every day for things going on.
So when I decide to take on a big dream and disrupt the status quo things get interesting.
No details yet on what this project may be. I’ll fill you in at a later date. Let’s just say I’ve been dealing with a thick layer of fear around the whole thing and trying new ways to work through it…step into it…try to get by it. It’s a big thing so I’m in no hurry to get to it without due diligence but I’m finding fear to be a big stumbling block.
A few random things wandered into my field of vision to make me realize I wasn’t just procrastinating but stuck. The first was a line from a FB post…if your dreams don’t scare you, you aren’t dreaming big enough. Ummm okay! Think about that for a minute. If you’re comfortable, and possibly bored a bit, with your life maybe it’s time for a change. Made my brain start firing…
Secondly I saw a post from another self esteem guru that I love which reaffirmed that the universe was screaming at me…and I better listen! All the things I want to achieve are on the other side of that fear…
Here’s a little video I put together about fear…and, also, sticking your face in front of the camera is scary too! So I’m going to practice doing some more of these videos…stay tuned!
Introducing our new podcast! Yes…we did it! Here’s the description…
Our recipe for family is most times sprinkled with comedy, sometimes serious, and always keeps it real.Â
Join artist Susan, of Susan’s Art Circus, and geek husband Wendell, of Slog Belly Studios, as we chat through the the benefits of being best friends in marriage, 24/7 living and working under the same roof, the constant yin yang of the artist and the geek, and keeping open relationships with our two teens, AdaLee and Paul.
Episode #1: Teenagers hijack the show and how the introductory outline goes right out the window…our first episode was supposed to be an introduction but quickly evolved into topics our teens wanted to chat about. From phone aggravation to LGBTQIAP to marriage they both definitely have opinions! Add some funny experiences, some wine talk, childbirth, a couple “f” bombs, a random list of topics, and there you have it! More to come…

It’s been about 18 months since I made the plunge into a vegan diet. Not because I have an emotional attachment to animals, although I do on some level, and not necessarily to help save the planet, which I do think needs all the help it can get, but I did it for health reasons (menopause is no joke) and how it made me feel. That’s not to say, even though they all knew the reasons, that my family thought I’d lost it. (you can see how excited Paul is)
All they could see was a life without bacon or hamburgers, no more steak on the grill or sausage sandwiches, and oh geez…no eggs! When I tried a two week trial vegan diet out for size on the entire family it lasted about ten days before my son came to me in tears. “Mom…(sniff, sniff) do you remember (tears, sniff, sniff) when you used to cook with meat?” True. True story.
So you have to come to grips with the fact that you live with a bunch of carnivores. How does that work if you don’t eat animal products and you do all the cooking, grocery shopping, etc.? One could say very carefully…but really it just takes creativity and extra hands when you have to deal with things you don’t want to deal with. Like cut up chicken for the gang and not touch it…you designate one of the carnivores.
Meals are planned (most of the time) so everyone can have what they like and I am not driven absolutely mad by cooking like a crazy diner chef. Things like mexican style spicy hamburger alongside a pan of black beans made with the same ingredients minus the obvious. Or Jerk chicken…again substituting beans for the bird stuff but using all the same ingredients in both.
There are times that the whole family eats vegan. Do they always know it? No. Too many things are pretty good replicas so there’s no need to spill the beans (so to speak). Once I committed to this I found some great resources with recipes that work for all of us.
Let me share some. Maybe you’ll give it a try…
My absolute favorite and go to recipes are from Isa Chandra Moskowitz
Now we happen to LOVE Indian cuisine and this gal translates all your favorites into vegan yumminess. I have this on my IPad because I cook from it so often.
There are many more that I’ve come to love and rely on. Next time let’s talk about baking. Sweet stuff…everybody’s favorite!
If you try any of these let me know what you think!
Hi! Hello! I’m AdaLee, and I’m writing a guest blog post for my mom about our Arc Planner!!
Recently my mom and I both started to get more organized and we got ourselves an Arc planner organizer and notebook.
The Arc planner is disc based, not three-hole-based, which means that instead of the normal three-hole rings, they have 11 discs as the binding. We both have a faux-leather cover arc filled with dividers and paper and what nots of our choice.
Mine happens to have normal three-hole-punched college-ruled paper, graph paper, and even some blank paper. Since these papers are not already compatible with the Arc because of their inferior three-hole-punches, the Arc planner has a punch system that makes pretty much any kind of stationery into something that can be put into the arc!
I love this thing. I honestly do.
I had a super lame three-hole binder that had d-shaped clips instead of the default O shaped or C shaped ones normally in three-hole binders. What the meant was that papers in the binder would be incredibly difficult to maneuver without putting unnecessary stress on the punched holes. This resulted in a lot of torn paper, including some that was (or would be) important to class.
With the arc, I can now not have to worry about any paper tearing too much, for the way the Arc punches the paper that fits in it, individual papers put under too much stress simply pop out.
Â
No worries. No damage. Just pop them back in again and
***ta da!!!*** you’re all good!!
On top of that, having to repunch and reformat all of the paper that I put into this thing requires me to be more organized about my schoolwork. My failed organizational days are gone!
My daughter and i did a little experiment this past weekend. Gratitude and what it means to us. We barely scratched the surface of how we truly feel about the subject. We did manage to make a couple of signs proclaiming our feelings through the laughter.
My husband was attempting to take our picture but we weren’t being very helpful.
Serious…he said make a serious face! I guess that’s it…not sure.
We got goofy…or just plain kooky looking.
We truly are gr8full for each other. Even when we don’t get along or disagree…we still laugh most of the time.
We are part of the #gr8fullcre8ive project found at the Cre8ive Klatch blog and also on their Instagram account @cre8iveklatch.
